It's 3am and you're doing the maths again.
If they go down now, that's two hours. Maybe three.
In the morning someone will ask if you're getting any sleep and you'll say "oh, you know, we're getting there."
And then you'll cry in the car about something that doesn't matter.
You haven't become a worse person.
You haven't lost your patience or your sense of humour or whoever you used to be.
You're a person who hasn't had any processing time in months.
Here's the part nobody explains.
Your brain does most of its sorting out overnight, in dream sleep.
That's when the day gets filed away, the worry gets turned down and the stress you've been carrying gets emptied out so you wake up able to cope.
When your nights are broken, over and over, that processing barely gets a chance to happen.
So it stacks up. Small things start to feel enormous.
You snap at people you love. You lie there exhausted and still can't switch off.
It isn't a character flaw. It's a bucket that never gets emptied.
Hypnotherapy works with that same state.
The deeply relaxed part of a session is very similar to dream sleep, which is why it can give your brain some of that processing time back, even during a stretch when your nights aren't giving you any.
Most people say it's the most rested they've felt in months.
I'm Emma, an award winning hypnotherapist.
I work online with parents across the UK and worldwide and online sessions are every bit as effective as sitting in the room together.
