Review: Troll in a Hole, worth £12

The Troll in a Hole game comes in a lovely sturdy box with colourful pictures that draw you in to playing.

The game requires some setting up but this is very minimal and only takes a couple of minutes. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The game pieces are well made and are of good quality and the colours are bold and images are clear.

The game states it is for ages four and up but we played with a five year old and a three and a half year old who was able to understand the game and also enjoyed playing.

The instructions for the game are very clear, simple, and easy to follow. Having pictures on the instructions was an extra helpful aid. The idea of the game is fun, but the trail to the hole should be longer because the game was over very quickly and did not give many turns per person, you just start to get settled in to game play and then suddenly the game is finished. One person ended with a full bag, but two people only had a few tiles, and one person had no tiles at all. It was a very short game which had an 'is that it?' feel to it which was disappointing.

The Troll in a Hole has the potential to be a good game but it is quite basic and it would be better if the trails were double the length. As someone who has many Orchard Toys which are well loved in our family, I personally would not recommend The Troll in a Hole game. I would rate the game as three stars out of five because it is well made with an enticing, colourful design, and a good game concept, it is just a bit short and a longer game would be more engaging and more enjoyable.
