High Lodge at Thetford Forest

High Lodge Suffolk

One of my loves of Suffolk, is that there’s so many places and attractions to discover and enjoy. My first Suffolk star is High Lodge - tucked away on the Suffolk/ Norfolk border, a hidden gem in the middle of Thetford forest

We visited for the first time recently and was blown away by how much there is to do with children of all ages. It’s a recreation park, looked after by Forestry England, a maze of trails and activities, all cleverly created and built, deep within the Forest.

I feel I should start this Suffolk star with a bit of a disclaimer though. I’m not hugely outdoorsy - getting cold and muddy is not my idea of fun! so for me to be recommending visiting a forest in the winter, means the facilities here are a step above your normal country walk.

There’s organised bookable activities, such as adventure golf, segways and Go Ape, but the thing that I thought that would appeal to those with toddlers, is the huge free expanse of space that stretches out in front of you ready to be explored. It’s been very well thought out - full of winding trails, hidden play areas and even a Gruffalo statue.

To me it ticks all the boxes, if you are looking for ways to get active or outdoors more as a family this new year, but also want easy parking, a hot chocolate and nice loo’s too, then this is the countryside trail for you! Suffolk2
