Review: Priddy Children's Books
A review of Lift The Flap Shadow Books and the I Love... series
Like many parents, we have read Priddy books with our children since they were little babies. It’s not that we realised we were forming any sort of loyalty to the Priddy brand - they just seem to publish books for babies better than anyone else!
Here are a couple of their titles that we feel are worthy of a special mention
Lift the Flap Shadow Books

Titles in this set include, “At My House” and “On The Farm”, and they are a wonderful introduction to all the different things you can find in these settings. The books are big (roughly a foot square) and each flap has a silhouette printed on it of the object it is covering. This creates a fun and educational game for children to guess what is under the flap and then discover if they are right. The pictures beneath the flaps are real photos (which we prefer to illustrations as they reflect real life more accurately) and the pictures themselves are vibrant, colourful and large.
Recommended for children 1 year old and over, our children (aged 2 and 3 years) have been delighted by these books. We find lift the flap books are always a hit, but a typical problem with them is that the flaps are often easily torn by over-excited children. Not so in this case – at least, not yet! The books are very solid. Whilst not being board books, the pages are very thick and the flaps themselves are resilient to accidental tearing, though I’m sure a determined toddler could still do damage.

All in all, we would definitely recommend the Lift The Flap Shadow books. More than just an introduction to first words, the flaps provide the opportunity to develop hand-eye coordination as well as problem solving skills – and of course they are fun!

The 'I Love...' Touch & Feel Book Series
Including I Love Bunnies and I Love Ducklings

These are, quite simply, lovely books. Taking a baby animal in each book they describe to children what they do, how they look and what they eat through enjoyable rhymes, whilst at the same time providing a ‘touch and feel’ experience to give an idea of how they feel.
Again, the pictures are real photographs and they are so cute! They are simple pictures with plain or basic backgrounds, which makes them perfect for babies and toddlers. The rhymes are well-written and enjoyable as well.
Recommended for 1 year olds and over, I think they are definitely suitable for babies younger than that as well – the board pages are very sturdy and the contrast in the pictures holds the attention of little ones well. With 10 pages (including covers) they are the perfect length for babies too.
Selling for just £3.99 each, these are quality books that are attractive, enjoyable and educational. See
