Review of Pixifoto, Northampton

Specialist Family Portrait Photographers

Freed Family Portrait, courtesy of PixifotoThough I had of course heard of Pixifoto, I had never actually visited one of their studios until last week, and I must say I was very impressed by their professional yet personal service.

When we arrived, the photographer Manisha welcomed us and took the time to chat through what kinds of photos we were looking for, explaining the options available to us. We were looking for a family portrait and opted to try both the black background and white background to see which we preferred.

The studio itself felt very bright and clean, and though not huge, it was bigger than I expected and had ample space for taking portrait pictures. All the kit was set up and there was no delaying as we got straight to it, which was great as we only have short periods of the day when Sophie (now 1 year) is well rested/fed and performs well.

Rather embarrassingly, Alice was on true 2-year-old form (and she managed to set off Sophie a couple of times too), which certainly tested Manisha’s distraction skills to the max! But she performed admirably, and remained cheery and calm without any hint of frustration (which I promise is impressive!) Iggle Piggle made an amusing cameo appearance and took a couple of the pictures himself, which worked a treat, and Manisha seemed to have an unending list of potential poses we could try which kept Alice moving, and stopped her before she could go into full ‘tantrum mode’. It was apparent that Alice wasn’t going to play ball and it was to Manisha’s credit that she recognised this and called the session to an end perhaps slightly earlier than she normally would have: we certainly appreciated it!

I suppose because of the size of Pixifoto, Manisha was able to offer us the opportunity to come back for another studio session with a different photographer to see if the girls would be more cooperative with another person taking the pictures. It was tempting, but in the end unnecessary. We went through the pictures there and then (again very efficient!) and, she had impressively been able to capture a couple of images that we were really happy with (one shown here), so we left happy customers.

The whole session took maybe 30-40 minutes, and we were really pleased to have been able to get a portrait we were happy with and still have the rest of the day to play with. And because of their very central location, we had a little browse around Mothercare and got the girls’ feet measured at Brantanos before heading home!
